Beauty is easiest to recognize when it follows the rules.
So we broke them.
Avant Garde explores what remains when the familiar ideas of beauty, fashion, and the human form are pulled apart and reconstructed into something less comfortable. Shapes become exaggerated. Faces are transformed. Bodies become structures upon which strange new identities are assembled.
Some creations are elegant. Others are grotesque. Some exist uneasily somewhere between the two.
There is no attempt to return them to normal.
That is the point.
Because beauty does not always need to be soft, familiar, or easily understood. Sometimes it lives in distortion, excess, imperfection, and the things we cannot immediately decide whether we should admire or fear.
Look long enough and the strange becomes beautiful.
Look a little longer, and you may begin to wonder why it ever frightened you.
